Rodrigo’s punting days may be over

Concentrating exclusively on kickoffs and place kicks, Rodrigo’s hopes of contributing to Georgia’s punting success may not come to fruition.
Marshall Long, a fellow U.S. Army All-American alumni, was signed and has become the starting punter for the Bulldogs. Rodrigo was the backup punter for one game, the loss at Mississippi, when normal backup punter Brice Ramsey could not make the trip because of a hand injury.
Rodrigo has spent time the last two summers putting in practice repetitions, but his primary duties for UGA seem desined to be kicking and not punting.
In high school, Rodrigo specialized in rugby-style punts, and in his senior year averaged more than 46 yards per punt. He was named Class AAAAA first team all-state punter twice, was an all-region selection as kicker and punter twice, and garnered 10 all-star awards during his senior year, four of them for punting and six of them for kicking, including his selection to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the most prestigious high school postseason event in the country.
