Colts overcome early deficit, dump Dolphins 27-17 for first win of the season
Updated through October 5, 2021
Shrugging off a 3-0 deficit, the Indianapolis Colts employed a long road trip to Miami to record their first victory of the 2021-22 season on Oct. 3 with a 27-17 decision over the Miami Dolphins. Combined with Tennessee’s overtime loss to the New York Jets, the 1-3 Colts trail the 2-2 Titans by just one game in the AFC South standings.
Second-year kicker Rodrigo contributed 9 points to the team’s triumph, converting all three of his extra point attempts plus both of his field goal tries. For the season, the former University of Georgia All-American and Lou Groza Award winner has been successful on 15 of his 16 place kicks through four games (6 for 6 PATs and 9 for 10 FGs) for a percentage of 93.8.
Rodrigo’s 33 points lead the Colts in scoring, and he is eighth in the NFL among leading kick scorers.
After trailing 3-0 on a Jason Sanders field goal for the Dolphins, the Colts scored touchdowns in the second and third quarters for a 14-3 lead, and Rodrigo’s field goals from 34 and 43 yards made it 20-3 in the fourth period. Indianapolis scored one more touchdown to offset a pair by the Dolphins.
The Colts will attempt to win a second straight game on Oct. 11, a Monday Night Football national telecast at the Baltimore Ravens.
